Sunset Daycare
Brooklyn Group Family Daycare
Our Ethos
Built upon the Reggio Emilia and Montessori pedagogies, Sunset Daycare strives to make learning fun and natural for children between 6 months and 5 years old.
Our Experience
Our child-driven curriculum focuses on three core tenets: respect, responsibility, and community. These are taught through exploration, discovery, and play.
Who is Sunset Daycare?
After 15 years of providing early childhood education in rural Central and South America, where low-income families lack access to schools and daycares, Sonia Oquendo decided to open a business in Brooklyn's Sunset Park to serve her local community. She recognizes the importance of early years in a child's development and aims to provide the best possible education for young children.
What Sets Us Apart
Guided by highly qualified, loving, and caring experienced staff, we offer children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old a safe, nurturing environment where they can grow and learn.
-
Children learn alongside their peers in a community-centered environment. Our nurturing home setting fosters a sense of belonging and comfort, allowing kids to thrive. We blend structured activities with free play to support holistic development and prepare children for future academic success.
-
Our dedicated team guides children toward independence and self-motivation through hands-on activities and engaging routines. We incorporate elements from multiple educational philosophies to create a rich, diverse learning experience. We empower children to become confident, lifelong learners by emphasizing exploration, creativity, and problem-solving.
-
All staff are CPR/First-Aid Certified & have background screenings cleared by the NY State Office of Children and Family Services.
-
Our staff and programs are bilingual. Children are immersed in Spanish and English throughout the day, fostering natural language acquisition and cultural awareness. This dual-language approach enhances cognitive development and prepares children for success in our increasingly globalized world.
-
Our on-site atelierista, or art teacher, works with children to help them express themselves through creative mediums. This specialized educator introduces various artistic techniques and materials, encouraging exploration and self-expression. By integrating art into daily learning, we nurture children's imagination, boost their confidence, and develop their fine motor skills.
-
We see parents as partners in their children's education and seek to create a bridge between a child's life inside and outside of school. Through regular workshops, parent-teacher conferences, and open communication channels, we empower families to actively participate in their child's learning journey. Our approach not only enhances children's development but also fosters a strong, supportive community of engaged parents and caregivers.
